Prior to the meeting, the participants accompanied by Rector Ilshat Gafurov, visited several scientific and educational buildings of Kazan Federal University. They inspected a training and laboratory building and a new campus of the Institute of Basic Medicine and Biology (74 Karl Marx Street, 18 Volkov Street), a 3D- Centre of the Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technology (4/5 Kremlyovskaya Street), as well as a renovated room on the 7th and 8th floors of the second academic building (35 Kremlyovskaya Street).
A key topic on the agenda was the implementation of the Program to improve the competitiveness of Kazan Federal University among leading research and educational centers within the period of 2013-2020. Head of the University Ilshat Ghafurov said that on October 25th and 26th, 2013, there had been the defense of the “road maps” of fifteen universities of Russia in front of the expert community and Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation Dmitry Livanov. Kazan Federal University successfully overcame this stage receiving no special remarks on the “road map” from the Russian Ministry of Education.
The identified priority areas of the University include biomedicine and pharmaceuticals, advanced materials, oil production, oil refining and petrochemicals, and information and communication technology.
