The repair and restoration work of a house belonging to merchant Yakov Shamov has been completed in Kazan.
The two-storey brick house is located on Ostrovsky Street. The building is an architectural monument of the 19th century, built in the eclectic style, and is recognized as an object of cultural heritage of regional significance.
During the repair and restoration work in the building, the main structures were strengthened, the roof and facade were restored, windows were made and installed, and the premises were decorated.
The merchant of the first guild, the head of the Old Believers' community, Yakov Shamov, was remembered by Kazan residents as a generous benefactor. In particular, the city hospital was built with his funds in 1910, which was then called Shamovskaya.
Currently, the foundation of the organization uniting gifted children and adolescents "Selet" is located in the building on Ostrovsky Street.
