Russian and Tatarstan state awards for World Summer Universiade in Kazan in 2013 were presented at the Kazan City Hall earlier today. Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov, Russian President’s Envoy to VFD Mikhail Babich and Russian Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov attended the meeting.

All local residents, authorities, and ministry and association officials, had contributed to the hosting of World Summer Student Games, said Russian President’s Envoy to the VFD while opening the ceremony. Over the course of preparation, he said, “all residents were organised, mobilised and lived with the idea of worthily hosting the World Summer Universiade.” He thanked everyone involved in the preparation for and hosting of the Games.

“The highest appreciation has been expressed at all levels. Spectacular sports competitions were held and the Russian team, with a great advantage, won practically all the main events,” the official recalled.

Owing to Universiade, Kazan and Tatarstan had gained an excellent sports and welfare infrastructure, he added. “Russia in general got a beneficial experience of building new facilities, because a number of sites included unique engineering solutions,” Babich stressed.

President of Tatarstan thanked President of Russia Vladimir Putin for the latter’s appreciation of his work. “It was a national project, and we were one big cog in that great mechanism. Everything that was done was done for our citizens and for promoting Tatarstan,” R. Minnikhanov emphasised. Univeriade, he added, had been an enormous test and the republic had coped with the task well.
