A little more than 400 days remain before the 27th World Summer Universiade 2013 in Kazan. On the threshold of the most large-scale event in the history of modern Russia the sports infrastructure preparation works are being carried out in the capital of Tatarstan. In particular, the builders started major repairs and repairs of a quite a number of the Sports Venues.
Major repairs of the Sports Venues are carried out according to the previously approved schedule under the general superintendence of the Ministry of Construction, Architecture and Housing of the Republic of Tatarstan. These works will allow to both reconditioning the Venues constructed before Kazan won the right to host the Universiade 2013, and bringing them into compliance with the requirements of international sports federations included in the sports program of future World Summer University Games.
Currently the works started at Trudovye rezervy and Raketa stadiums where the existing football coverings are being demounted. A new covering must comply with the FIFA quality concept of Two Stars category. At Rubin stadium where final and semi-final football matches will take place during the Universiade, spectator stands are being demounted to install waterproofing. The builders are planning to replace the covering by the artificial one corresponding to the requirements and highest standards, install a new information display and new light towers as well as to carry out other works.
In a covered manege of International Kazan Equestrian Sports Complex where table tennis competitions will take place during the Universiade 2013, repair works are being carried out in the main and small halls. In particular, the Venue will be equipped with a public address system and an information display.
The preparation of the ground to hold the competitions is under way within the territory of the Shooting Complex, and the floor covering is being demounted in Batyr Sports Complex which will serve as a training area for weight-lifters.
During 2012 construction works will be carried out at other 13 Sports Venues: Central Stadium, Football, Track and Field Menege, Training Stadium of the Athletes’ Village, Tasma Stadium, Basket Hall, Olymp Universal Sports Complex, Biyektau Universal Sports Hall, Sports Complex of Fencing School, Sports Palace, Field Hockey Centre, Tulpar Stadium, Zilant Universal Sports Complex, Beach Volleyball Ground (Chistopolskaya street). At the present time preparatory works are carried out at these Venues and design documentation is prepared as required.
