Production of polymer pipes with a diameter of 1.6 m has started in Kazan, and a line of up to 2.4 m is being prepared for launch. According to government representatives and an expert, polymer pipes are needed as part of a large–scale renovation of worn-out networks.
In Kazan, the pipe plant of the Remgaz Communications Group of companies (GC RGK) is carrying out commissioning work on the launch of new equipment for the production of spiral pipes up to 2.4 m in diameter. According to a number of characteristics, these products will have no analogues in the Russian Federation, for example, in terms of strength, the presence of internal layers: thermo- and wear-resistant, as well as resistant to chemically aggressive environments. With continuous production per year, the company, which the company acquired from Kazanorgsintez (KOS, part of SIBUR Holding) a year ago, will be able to produce 26.5 km of such pipes.
The pipe production plant located on the territory of Kazanorgsintez was acquired by the RGK Group in December 2023. KOS sold this plant to the relevant owner on the condition of developing the asset and preserving the team.
About 1 billion rubles were allocated for the modernization of the pipe shop with the support of VTB Bank and the Industrial Development Fund over the year. Of these, more than 750 million rubles were invested in the purchase of new equipment, 200 million rubles for repairs. In 2025, it is planned to purchase additional equipment for another 200 million rubles.
Ilshat Gimaev, Deputy Minister of Construction, Architecture and Housing of Tatarstan, said that large-diameter pipes are in demand in the municipal sector. Thus, they are necessary for the construction of new networks for integrated territorial development (CDT) projects, especially the main supply networks.
The depreciation of utility networks in the republic and in the country as a whole, the deputy minister noted, is very high. Over 4.5 billion rubles have been allocated from the federal budget to the republic for 2 years as part of the national Infrastructure for Life project. At the regional level, a utility grid modernization program with a budget of 10 billion rubles for 2025 will be launched this year. This, according to Gimaev, will make it possible to bring part of the housing and communal infrastructure to a standard state.
"The fact that polymers are now replacing metal pipes is a very necessary innovation," the Deputy minister stressed.
