Kazan has once again become a venue for discussing public safety

27 February 2014, Thursday

Kazan has once again become a venue for discussing public safety. The republic’s capital will for three days host a forum called Security and Communication, sponsored by Tatarstan Cabinet.

The event includes specialised exhibitions themed Security, Communication, Security and Labour Safety, as well as the 3rd workshop conference Current Life Safety Problems: Present and Future.

The forum’s official opening took place this morning at an exhibition centre. Present were Tatarstan Prime Minister Ildar Khalikov, Russian Interior Ministry General Department of Public Safety and Local Executive Authorities Liaison Chief Yuriy Demidov, and others.

In his welcoming remarks, Ildar Khalikov said that Kazan hosted an event as large for the third time, the previous editions having been held in the run-up to Universaide.

“Many of our friends and partners are here today – people who were strongly involved in ensuring safety at Universiade. Together we held the Games up to the highest standard. While preparing for it we realised how important safety in all areas of life was,” the speaker noted. The forum drew the attention of companies from around the world, he added.

“I hope the exhibition will become an effective tool of cooperation, that is, an opportunity to build new safety systems for Tatarstan residents,” he concluded.

Yuriy Demidov on behalf of Russian Interior Ministry expressed gratitude for providing a venue for the event.

“Peace and order at public places and residential areas, as well as safety from various disasters and accidents, cannot be ensured without the use of science and technology achievements,” he said.

Russian State Council’s decision from 2007, when an emergency prevention automatic software solution Safe City had been deployed, had given powerful momentum to the line of work, he said. In January, Russian government approved the membership of an interagency government commission on automatic software solutions.

One of the key purposes of the conference is reviewing Tatarstan's expertise of hosting Universiade, Demidov went on to report.

Organisers say partitipants in the forum are more than 130 firms from 15 Russian territories and 13 countries. They all present latest achievements and cutting-edge projects related to ensuring safety in all spheres of public activity.
