December 9 is the international anticorruption day

9 December 2015, Wednesday
12 years ago this holiday was established by the UN. 9th of December 2003 in Merida on the Political high-level conference was opened for signature the UN Convention against corruption, adopted by the UN General Assembly on November 1, 2003. The document obliges the signatory States to declare a criminal offence of bribery, embezzlement of budgetary funds and the laundering of corruption proceeds. According to one Convention, you must return the funds to the country from whence they came due to corruption. The 2003 Convention is the first document of this kind. It is particularly important for countries where corruption of all structures causes a damage to national well-being. The special representative of the Secretary-General of the UN, Hans Corell, announcing the decision to establish the international day against corruption, urged representatives from more than 100 countries gathered at the conference to sign the Convention. It should become an important instrument of international law to counter corruption, "to the detriment of developing countries and threaten democracy and the legal state". This holiday in our country began to celebrate since 2008, after joining in 2007 to GRECO – group of States against corruption. On this day in many countries around the world. Including in Russia, demonstrations, meetings, conferences, seminars and other events devoted to a particular topic.
