The share of Russian cities with a favorable environment for citizens was 26.9%. These results were obtained on the basis of the calculation of the Ministry of Construction of Russia in conjunction with DOM.RF urban environment quality index according to the results of 2019. It is noteworthy that this list included 12 cities of the Republic of Tatarstan, such as: Almetyevsk, Bavly, Bugulma, Elabuga, Zelenodolsk, Leninogorsk, Mendeleevsk, Nizhnekamsk, Chistopol, Naberezhnye Chelny, Kazan, Innopolis. The greatest positive dynamics over the past year was noted by such criteria as a general improvement in the appearance of cities, a reduction in emergency housing, and the creation of a barrier-free environment. To bring cities to a new level of development, local authorities succeeded largely due to the implementation of national projects. Of particular note is the increase in the share of residents participating in decision-making on urban development. “Creating comfortable and safe living conditions for citizens is one of the national priorities. By order of the President of the Russian Federation, by 2024 it is necessary to increase the urban environment quality index by 30 percent and halve the number of cities with an unfavorable environment. The quality index provides an understanding of what strengths and weaknesses each city has and what further steps the authorities need to take in order to make life in their city comfortable, safe and convenient,” - explained Vladimir Yakushev, head of the Russian Ministry of Construction.
