Today in Kazan started the 8th International Architectural Festival "Eco-Bereg". The contestants of the event, which takes place year after year in different cities of Russia, this year developed the concept of renovation of the Kazan Volga embankment from the River port to the Kirov dam. The main task for the participants was to solve comfortable and sought-after pedestrian connections between the Volga coastal strip and the historical center of Kazan, which would stimulate the revival and development of the now unpopular territory. In total this year, 45 works from 76 applications were submitted to the “Eco-Bereg” festival competition. As the head of the competition and festival programs of the Union of Architects of Russia Elena Zhilnikova noted, almost all Russian regions were represented among the participants. Both student projects and large architectural bureaus, including 6 foreign participants (Australia, England, Spain, Italy, China and Serbia) were announced. According to Vladimir Kudryashev, federal funds will be attracted to the construction of a new Volga embankment in Kazan, as was the case with shore protection measures during the Universiade on Kazanka and Kaban Lake.
