A new art object from the family of elephants, hot colors, originality and exotic: Kazan "Zambezi River" in the style of ethno-African will open its doors in August

The territory of the updated zoo "Zambezi River" is made in the style of ethno-Africa, and visitors from the first minutes can feel like guests of a hot continent. African style is played up in the design elements of buildings and enclosures. The basis is the ethno-code of the inhabitants of Africa, namely the expression of the spirit of the people through the contrast of combinations, saturated colors and a variety of geometric shapes. All this is reflected in the design of the premises - for example, each aviary of the Kazan zoo is stylized as an ornament of a certain people. Who worked on the project. The design of the rooms and facades of the Zambezi River is carried out by the creative team of the Design and Architecture Department of the State Unitary Enterprise "Tatinvestgrazhdanproekt" under the guidance of the chief architect of the project Elvira Abunagimova. Artists and designers of "MosBio Engineering Ltd" also took part in the development. According to the head of the department of architecture and design of the State Unitary Enterprise "Tatinvestgrazhdanproekt" Darya Ivanova, a similar project was developed for the first time, and this became a kind of challenge for the institute's specialists. The development took about six months, while the experience of zoos from around the world was carefully studied, and the specialists traveled to other cities and countries. For example, in a zoo there will be no cells. Animals and visitors will be separated by a moat, electroshepherds, glass fences about 4 cm thick.

Ethno code of Africa.

In the process of studying different materials, the creative group had an idea of ​​the concept of “ethno-code”. The atmosphere of a particular area of ​​the continent, symbols, African flavor can be traced precisely throughout the design of the zoo. Ornaments made on the walls of the premises bear not only decorative, but also educational functions. Entry group. When making the entrance to the zoo, the decision was made to use the main symbols of the hot continent. Enclosures. Further along the perimeter of the territory are open-air cages. The largest of them are enclosures for elephant, leopard, giraffe, and hippopotamus and primate. Among the smaller structures are aviaries for birds, monkeys, technical premises.

Vegetation.

The territory of the new part of the zoo is decorated with shrubs, ornamental trees, evergreens and flower beds. Green plantings for Kazan “Zambezi River” were selected by landscape designers of the Kazan Zoo, and employees of “Kazgorvodzelenkhoz” were engaged in the direct implementation of the idea. The choice of plants was taken creatively, given the climatic conditions of the region.

The elephant enclosure.

Kazan "Zambezi River" will be the first owner of African elephants among Russian zoos. The elephant enclosure will occupy the vast territory of the new part of the zoo, which is divided into a street part and a closed room. Special attention was paid to security issues, which, according to the interlocutors, are thought out as thoroughly as possible.

Lion's enclosure.

Once get into the enclosure for lions and cheetahs, guests will move into the atmosphere of the peoples of South Africa. This effect is achieved due to the decoration of the ceilings by plants stylized as vines and panels with perforation in the form of ornaments. In this enclosure, visitors will be able to see a lion, cheetah, eared foxes and serval. Hippo's enclosure. For the hippopotamus Zakharia, who will leave her old habitat in the old part of the zoo by the opening of the Zambezi River, the summer house and a closed aviary are equipped in the new dwelling. “Everyone will be able to watch the bathing of the animal, as the water will be absolutely clear. Moreover, all the glasses in the zoo are safe, shockproof and passed the necessary test,” - said Elvira Abunagimova. Flamingo's enclosure. 

Two opposite walls of the enclosure with flamingos are made of transparent glasses, in cool weather, visitors can watch the unusual bird right outside.

Giraffe's enclosure.

A nice option for visitors is complemented by an enclosure with giraffes - now you can feed animals! The enclosed room for the giraffe is divided into two levels, and in order to treat the animal with a meal, you only need to go up to the second floor of the aviary. Animal feed can be purchased directly at the zoo. There is also a terrarium nearby. The special floor covering of the enclosure in the part where the giraffe will be located does not absorb dirt and odors, is easily cleaned, at the same time, the giraffe will be able to sharpen its hooves using it. Primates. The composition is based on an imitation of panels from national African plates, the ceilings are decorated with panels in the form of clouds, and the walls are painted with an ornament that is enclosed in a circle. In the recreation areas will be installed benches, flowerpots with compositions of flowers and plants. To date, all the finishing work in the winter cages for primates has already been practically completed. It remains only to install safety glasses.
