Biological treatment facilities (BPS) have been put into operation in Kazan after reconstruction. The work at the sewage treatment plants was carried out within the framework of the federal project "Improving the Volga River" of the national project "Ecology".
Sewage treatment plants in Kazan were put into operation in queues from 1974 to 1996. Their design capacity is 650 thousand cubic meters/day. Over time, the requirements for ecology and sanitary standards have changed and the need for renovation has become inevitable.
The implementation of this large-scale reconstruction allowed not only to upgrade more than 50 facilities that were put into operation in the 20th century, but also to build 13 new modern facilities, modernize equipment used for wastewater treatment, and improve the stages of mechanical and biological treatment by automating work processes, which led to improved wastewater treatment performance.
The owner of the facility is the Executive Committee of the city of Kazan, the operating organization is Municipal Unitary Enterprise Vodokanal.
