The opening of the Fencing Center took place in Kazan today. The ceremony was attended by Rais of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, President of the Russian Fencing Federation Ilgar Mammadov, Minister of Construction, Architecture and Housing Marat Aizatullin.
The facility is located on Korolenko Street. The sports complex has two large multi-purpose gyms, a gym, comfortable changing rooms with showers and bathrooms, and a medical office. The capacity of the new center is more than 100 people.
Rustam Minnikhanov talked with the Olympic champions who glorified the Kazan fencing school, Naila Gilyazova and Marta Martyanova.
In his speech, Rustam Minnikhanov noted that Tatarstan has a glorious fencing tradition. "Today we are opening the most modern Fencing Center, where all conditions have been created for the training process and the organization of competitions. Our glorious fencing traditions should be continued by young athletes. Good luck to you!" said the Rais of Tatarstan.
Naila Gilyazova thanked the republic's leadership for implementing such an important project. "I am sincerely happy for the young athletes. They have everything they need here, and the best conditions. Let's move on to new victories," said the 1976 Olympic champion.
Today, over a thousand people practice fencing in Tatarstan. 25 coaches conduct training work with athletes. The Russian national team from the republic consisted of 11 people. Tatarstan annually hosts championships, championships and Cups of the Republic of Tatarstan in fencing, as well as national and interregional competitions among all ages.
