Accessibility for persons with disabilities will be mandatory in the design and construction of buildings.

From 1 July 2015 the Code "Accessibility of buildings and facilities for people with limited opportunity" will be mandatory in the design and construction of capital facilities, said Deputy Minister of construction and housing and communal economy of the Russian Federation Elena Sierra. The event, which was attended by activists of  the Federal authorities and public organizations of persons with disabilities, was devoted to creating an accessible environment for people with disabilities. Elena Sierra during the meeting, said that on December 26, 2014 was approved a new list of mandatory requirements for buildings and structures, which shall be applicable to all design organizations and monitored by all levels of expertise. She stressed that the draft list was discussed with public organizations of disabled persons, were taken into account their comments and suggestions.

In addition, according to her, the Ministry of construction of Russia together with the Ministry of education and science will be working on the issue of training for the design and construction of buildings subject to the requirements of accessibility for persons with disabilities
