2.4 million square meters of housing built in Tatarstan in 2012

In 2012 2.4 million square meters of new housing were commissioned in the Republic of Tatarstan. Such information was presented today at the final republican meeting in the Government House of the Republic of Tatarstan.  The meeting was chaired by President of the Republic Rustam Minnikhanov.

He said that 2.395 million square meters of housing including 482.1 thousand square meters according to the program of the State Housing Fund, had been commissioned in the Republic. “We planned to do more, so we achieved the level of the past year. But this is due to the fact that the Ministry of Regional Development of the Russian Federation did not fulfill its obligations in terms of the infrastructure provision. But I should say that 2.4 million meters of housing is a great amount and this is the third one in the country”, said the President.

President of the Republic thanked the leaders of the enterprises involved in the social mortgage program and said that this program help to solve housing problems of employees of enterprises as well as public sector employees and young families.

He also gave an overview of the program of providing housing for veterans. According to the republican programs 7128 apartments were built for veterans.  9027 apartments were bought in the open market, but only 1300 of them were new apartments. “We did not work enough here. Instead of secondary housing we could have build new apartments for veterans”, said Rustam Minnkhanov.

Minister of Construction, Architecture and Housing of the Republic of Tatarstan Irek Faizullin said that the program of housing construction for 2013 is 2.398 million square meters of housing including the social mortgage program that is 383.3 thousand square meters, investment apartment housing that is 1 million 9 thousand square meters and low-rise housing construction that is 1 million 14 thousand square meters.

Rustam Minnikhanov also discussed rented housing construction by the State Housing Fund.

The President also informed about a possible new direction in the housing construction. According to Rustam Minnikhanov the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia is ready to rent hostels for universities, and Tatarstan could build houses. "We can build hostels to be rented by universities. At the moment the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia has money, and it is essential to check if there are enough subsidies to justify expenses for these hostels.
