Sergei Stepashin: “The leadership of Tatarstan immediately responds to all comments of the Accounting Chamber”

Chairman of the Accounts Chamber of Russia Sergei Stepashin does not expect serious questions to Tatarstan following the results of the audit of the used budget funds allocated for the preparation and holding of the Universiade. This was announced today following his visit to a number of the upcoming Universiade Venues and his meeting with President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov.

During the interview after the meeting Sergei Stepashin noted that the Accounts Chamber of the Russian Federation together with the Accounts Chamber of the Republic of Tatarstan constantly monitors the progress of the preparation for the Universiade. Today the Head of the Accounts Chamber of the Russian Federation visited stadium “Kazan-Arena” under construction. “And I can assure you that the Universiade will be held on time, the preparations are as scheduled, there are only minor technical issues connected, in fact, with the opening of the Universiade”, said Sergei Stepashin.

He said that the results of the audit of the budget funds used for the Universiade would be announced in September, 2013. “But I can say I do not expect any serious issues arising. The leadership of the Republic and the government very quickly respond to the comments we make, and this work is fruitful”, said the Chairman of the Accounts Chamber of Russia.

Sergei Stepashin also said that on March 19th, 2013 the President of Russia signed an order in which the proposed to use the project of stadium "Kazan-Arena" as a model in preparation for the World Cup in 2018. "The amount involved is about 15 billion rubles, while in St. Petersburg, for example, the amount of 44 billion rubles has been declared”, said Sergei Stepashin. “And we decided to begin preparing draft statements for new stadiums in cities which will host the 2018 World Cup. Your football stadium will be used as an example, and I think that's a good sign for the Republic”, he added.
