8 May 2013, Wednesday

The meeting of the Organizing Committee for the preparation and celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 in the Republic of Tatarstan was held today in the Government House of the Republic of Tatarstan. The meeting was chaired by President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov and attended by Prime Minister Ildar Khalikov, Deputy Minister of Construction, Architecture and Housing of the Republic of Tatarstan A.M.Frolov, heads of other republican ministries and departments, representatives of the State Council of Tatarstan, heads of municipalities of the Republic of Tatarstan, veterans of the Great Patriotic War and others.

President of Tatarstan noted that this was the first meeting of the Organizing Committee and there are two years left before the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. “Preparations for the forthcoming anniversary should be the concern of all authorities and governments, all municipalities of the Republic, and a matter of honor for all people of Tatarstan”, said the Head of the Republic.

At the same time the President reminded that some work is already under way: in recent years material support of veterans has been improved, measures of social support has been arranged, the work on integrated health care for veterans has been carried out,  health checks of veterans are being performed; in state residential institutions 420 chambers of enhanced comfort were equipped for veterans and disabled people where they receive  high-tech medical care; in some rural settlements  needy veterans get preferential medicaments delivered to their home. According to Rustam Minnikhanov, a social service system is a key element of improving the quality of life of veterans.

“We will continue supporting veterans”, said the President. Rustam Minnikhanov asked heads of republican ministries and departments and municipalities to pay attention to the necessity to take care of every veteran. Among the veterans of the Great Patriotic War there are 5679 participants of the war. “Heads of municipalities should know a full name of every veteran, and know their living conditions and needs”, said the President.

Particular attention should be paid to veterans’ appeals received by the authorities. Rustam Minnikhanov said that in the first quarter of 2013 the Administration of the President of the Republic of Tatarstan had received 52 appeals from veterans of the Great Patriotic War. Most often they raise the issues of improving the living conditions and housing. “All these and other important issues should be considered in the preparation of anniversary events”, he said.

“It is important to pay attention to each veteran”, said Rustam Minnikhanov and urged all to take an active part in the discussion of the action plan and its implementation. “Systematic work, a clear action plan will let organize the upcoming 70th anniversary of the Victory at a decent level”, said the President of the Republic of Tatarstan. “It's not just an issue for the Organizing Committee, the work must be systematic and active in all areas”, added Rustam Minnikhanov.
