Universiade security issues discussed yesterday in the Kremlin

Yesterday, an enlarged meeting of the Security Council of the Republic, the Coordination Meeting on law enforcement, Antiterrorism Commission and Operational Headquarters in Tatarstan took place in the meeting room of the Representative building of the Kazan Kremlin, under the chairmanship of President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov. The meeting was attended by Minister of Construction, Architecture and Housing of the Republic of Tatarstan I.E.Faizullin, heads of Republican ministries, agencies, regional offices of federal agencies, regulatory authorities, heads of some energy sector enterprises, transport and hazardous production facilities, and directors of the Universiade Venues.

The participants discussed the Universiade integrated security issues and readiness of forces and means to ensure law and order during the international sports forum.

Opening the meeting, President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov noted that preparations for the Universiade had entered final straight. “A lot of work on the construction of sports facilities, transport infrastructure and service development has been done”, said the President. “The primary challenge in implementing such an important international forum is to ensure the safety of the participants, visitors and residents of our city”, added Rustam Minnikhanov.

50 sports facilities will be operated during the Universiade, of which 32 are sports venues, 18 are training ones and 3 auxiliary venues including football stadium “Kazan-Arena” for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Games, which will house a press center, as well as the Athletes’ Village for participants accommodation and the International Information Centre. As of today, the International Information Center and the Center for Public Safety of the Athletes’ Village have been commissioned. The latter will house the Joint Security Point of the Village. The work on ensuring regime and protection measures at the Universiade Venues is being carried out. Security system control has been installed.

Rustam Minnikhanov drew particular attention to energy security, the security of the transport infrastructure of the city, as well as to unauthorized discharges of sewage and contaminated storm waters of industrial enterprises into Lake Sredny Kaban the water area of which is a part of the Rowing Channel.
